EDUCATION WEEK KICKS OFF WITH MINISTER BREAKING GROUND IN WHITE CITY

Today Education Minister Russ Marchuk joined students, dignitaries and representatives from the Prairie Valley School Division to celebrate the start of construction on a brand new $22 million education facility in White City.

The new school, which was officially named this afternoon at the ceremony, will boast room for a core enrolment of 475 students ranging from Kindergarten to grade eight and 50 childcare spaces. Designed with an innovative approach, this school will offer students in similar grade levels flexible environments, allowing students to learn in groups within shared spaces.

The Government of Saskatchewan has committed more than $14 million toward development of this project.

"We believe our continued investment into Saskatchewan's education facilities for our students and early learners will directly, and positively impact the future success of our students," Marchuk said. "This brand new school will benefit the growing community of White City by offering an innovative learning facility for more than 500 students and early learners."

"As a Board of Education, we are committed to providing safe and functional spaces for all students, staff and families," Prairie Valley School Division Board Chair Ed Geall said. "This state-of-the art facility will soon be a hub of activity and excitement for the town of White City and surrounding communities."

The Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $500 million since November 2007 to move forward 41 major school capital projects and 860 additional smaller school capital projects across the province. This represents a record high investment in school infrastructure in less than a five year period.
