TWELVE CITIZENS TO RECEIVE SASKATCHEWAN'S HIGHEST HONOUR

Lieutenant Governor Dr. Lynda Haverstock today announced the names of 12 recipients of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.

The Order of Merit is the province's highest honour. It recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the well-being of the province and its residents.

"Each recipient exemplifies excellence and service," Haverstock said. "These outstanding citizens have had a tremendously positive impact in Saskatchewan and beyond, and they are most deserving of this prestigious honour."

Following are the 2005 recipients:

• Freda Ahenakew, author and university professor;

• Donald Black, businessman;

• Maria Campbell, writer and university professor;

• Irène Fournier Chabot, Francophone leader ;

• Dr. James Dosman, medical researcher;

• Dr. Bryan Harvey, scientist and university professor;

• Lusia Pavlychenko, teacher and choreographer of dance;

• Joseph Pettick, architect;

• Garnet (Sam) Richardson, real estate agent;

• John (Frank) Roy, retired educator;

• Dr. Aruna (Annu) Thakur, psychiatrist; and

• The Most Reverend V. James Weisgerber, Archbishop.

Including the 12 new members, there have been 134 appointments to the Order of Merit since its inception in 1985.

The Lieutenant Governor will bestow the Saskatchewan Order of Merit on the recipients on November 9th at an investiture ceremony in Regina.
