News Release - September 9, 2003 NEW NUMBERS: WEST NILE VIRUS
There are 18 new probable and confirmed cases of clinical illness due to West Nile Virus in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of cases to 130.
Although mosquito numbers are decreasing the risk of West Nile Virus disease will continue for the next few weeks depending on the weather. "It is important for Saskatchewan residents to continue to take appropriate measures to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes," Deputy Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Eric Young said. Preventive steps include wearing light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts and long pants, wearing insect repellent, avoiding outdoor activities during dawn and dusk, and removing standing water and debris from around the house and yard. The media is asked to refer to the Saskatchewan Health website at www.health.gov.sk.ca, for the latest number of human cases. -30- For More Information, Contact:
