News Release - December 8, 2009 PRINCE ALBERT GREEN ENERGY PROJECT RECEIVES FUNDINGPrince Albert's quest to become Saskatchewan's Green Energy capital today took another step forward following a $3 million announcement by Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff from the Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF) to establish a Green Energy Industrial Park. The funds are part of the federal and provincial governments' support to strengthen economic opportunities and revitalize communities affected by the negative impact of the economic downturn. "Green energy is becoming big business around the world and Saskatchewan needs to be at the forefront in order to capitalize on the new technologies and products that will be in demand," Cheveldayoff said. "We look forward to Prince Albert leading the way by setting up an industrial park, attracting businesses and becoming the centre for green energy products." Earlier in the year, the City of Prince Albert had received funding to carry out a feasibility study to analyze the project's viability. The plan is to build upon existing assets in the forest, farm and manufacturing sector to create new economic growth based in green energy production. In 2008, the federal government announced a $1 billion Community Development Trust Fund intended to help support activities that strengthen economic opportunities for communities negatively affected by global financial and commodity market disruption. Saskatchewan's share of the fund is $36.4 million over three years. Since last year, the province has been allocating funds to various communities for feasibility studies, drawing up economic development plans and upgrading or constructing infrastructure projects. Funding requests from other communities are still being finalized and further details will be provided once this process is complete. The application and guidelines are posted on Enterprise Saskatchewan's website at www.enterprisesaskatchewan.ca. -30- For more information, contact:
