HUGE INCREASE IN SASKATCHEWAN EXPORTS

Merchandise exports in the province took a huge jump in October according to a report released today by Statistics Canada. Merchandise exports increased by 53.6 per cent over October of 2010, well ahead of the 13.9 per cent rise nationally. Saskatchewan ranked first among the provinces in terms of percentage change.

"Trade is an important factor in attracting new investment and new people to our province," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "The Saskatchewan brand is gaining momentum on a global front and it means more opportunities for families and businesses in the future."

Merchandise exports totalled $2.8 billion in October 2011, up from $1.8 billion last year.

Exports in the first 10 months of 2011 totalled $25.4 billion and were up 25.4 per cent when compared to the first 10 months of 2010. That was the third highest percentage increase in Canada.
