News Release - November 17, 2011 NUMBER OF EI RECIPIENTS CONTINUES TO DROP IN SASKATCHEWAN
The number of Saskatchewan people receiving regular Employment Insurance dropped significantly in September, decreasing by 3,230 (-24.9 per cent) compared to the same month last year (seasonally adjusted). "The latest number of EI recipients from Saskatchewan indicates the strength of our labour market, particularly as our economy continues its steady growth," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. When expressed as a percentage of the total labour force population, Saskatchewan has the second fewest number of people receiving EI benefits in Canada at 1.2 per cent. "As we see improvement in our Employment Insurance numbers with each passing month, we continue to foster the creation of jobs for Saskatchewan residents," Norris said. "With more than 9,800 jobs posted on SaskJobs and the continued work by our Can-Sask Career and Employment Services offices, we are providing Saskatchewan job seekers with more employment opportunities." -30- For more information, contact:
