COMPANY PLEADS GUILTY TO LABOUR STANDARDS VIOLATIONS

Best Buildings Inc. and Corporate Director Doug Holt have each pled guilty to violations under Saskatchewan's Labour Standards Act.

Best Buildings Inc. and Corporate Director Doug Holt each pled guilty to failing to provide records under Section 66(c) of the Act and were fined a total of $1,400.

The company was fined $300 and a $60 surcharge. Corporate Director Doug Holt was fined $800 plus a $240 surcharge.

The Labour Standards Branch of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour supports fair and equitable workplace practices through public awareness and enforcement of The Labour Standards Act and regulations as well as other labour legislation. Whenever necessary, violations will be prosecuted.

In 2009-10 the Labour Standards Branch received 2,458 complaints and as a result, conducted 2,508 investigations which identified a total of $1.989 million dollars being owed to employees. Since April 1, 2009, the Branch prosecuted 20 cases; with 15 cases resulting in successful convictions and 5 still before the courts.
