LEGISLATIVE SECRETARY FOR LONG-TERM CARE TO CONSULT SASKATCHEWAN SENIORS

Legislative Secretary for Long-Term Care Initiatives and Regina-Qu'Appelle Valley MLA Laura Ross will be meeting with seniors across the province to hear their suggestions for improving the continuum of care in Saskatchewan.

"I have been asked to lead the development of a long-term care initiative to inform the development of the province's Seniors' Care Strategy," Ross said. "This strategy will ensure that Saskatchewan seniors have the necessary access to health care programs and services today and in the years to come. Our mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers deserve the best care that we are able to provide."

In her mandate letter from Health Minister Don McMorris, the Legislative Secretary for Long-Term Care Initiatives was asked to examine five issues:

• Elder abuse;
• Home care supports;
• Accessibility of personal care homes;
• Falls prevention; and
• And the feasibility of developing a seniors' secretariat.

Consultations are scheduled in communities throughout the province in September and October 2009.

Seniors can contact the legislative secretary at 306-545-6333 or by email at longtermcare@health.gov.sk.ca.
