SASKATCHEWAN SOUTH EAST ENTERPRISE REGION PROGRAM LAUNCHED

Economic development in south east Saskatchewan will now be rolled out under a new program following the launch of the Saskatchewan South East Enterprise Region (SSEER). The new program will see more funding and expanded services for regional economic development in the area.

Operating out of Estevan, SSEER will offer economic development services to Weyburn, Ogema, Wawota, Redvers, Carnduff and communities in between.

"Strong economic regions attract serious business investors and results in a vibrant provincial economy," Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "Through this program we want to build and enhance regional capacity in business retention and expansion by offering professional economic development expertise."

The new Enterprise Region (ER) program will strongly focus on sustainable economic growth by supporting regional business and industries and creating competitiveness advantages at the regional, national and international level.

"I am very pleased that the dedicated work and collaboration of our working group and interim board has resulted in the creation of the Saskatchewan South East Enterprise Region. We are confident that the new Enterprise Region will play a key role in building our regional economy," SSEER Board Chair Alan King said.

The new ER program is operational in 13 new regions across the province. The decision to create the new larger regions is based on where people live and work and takes into consideration natural boundaries such as rivers and road patterns.

The new ER program is now fully operational after the former REDA program ceased operations in early in 2009.
