News Release - August 28, 2012 NEW RENTAL HOUSING DEVELOPMENT FOR FAMILIES OPENS IN REGINA
Twenty-four new affordable rental suites for families officially opened today in Regina. Regina Walsh Acres MLA Warren Steinley on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude, joined Chairman Edmund Bellegarde from Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. (Silver Sage) and other dignitaries to celebrate the new rental housing development. "We have been pleased to work with SHC on this exciting project," Silver Sage General Manager Maynard Sonntag said. "With this new development Silver Sage now has nearly 500 affordable housing units." The total cost of the project is approximately $5.5 million. Of that amount, SHC provided $2.3 million, with the City of Regina contributing an additional $240,000. The funding balance was provided by Silver Sage, a non-profit housing organization dedicated to housing First Nations people in well maintained affordable rental units. The units will be available for both First Nations and non-Aboriginal people in housing need. SHC continues to work with the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors to develop new housing opportunities in Saskatchewan. Since November 2007, 309 affordable rental units have been added in Regina, including this Silver Sage project. The development consists of 2 two-bedroom and 22 three-bedroom townhouse units located in the Coronation Park area of Regina. -30- For more information, contact:
