SASKATCHEWAN'S HEALTH MINISTER JOINS PROVINCIAL TERRITORIAL AND FEDERAL COLLEAGUES IN QUEBEC CITY

Saskatchewan's Health Minister Don McMorris is heading to Quebec City to meet with his provincial, territorial and federal counterparts on Thursday, September 4 and Friday, September 5.

"Infrastructure and health human resources are my top priorities for discussions with my colleagues," McMorris said. "All provinces and territories are facing similar pressures in trying to attract scarce health care providers, and making sure we have adequate equipment and facilities to care for our residents."

Minister McMorris noted that these issues are important to Saskatchewan people and he plans to revisit the two issues on infrastructure and human resources, which he first raised with the federal minister back in April.

"We have a serious health system infrastructure deficit and are committing $100 million this year to pay for badly needed repairs and maintenance to health care facilities in Saskatchewan," McMorris said. "This infrastructure deficit also impacts our ability to recruit valued health professionals who are looking for opportunities to take full advantage of the latest technology."

Other topics on the agenda for the health ministers include; pharmaceuticals, progress in implementing an electronic health records system, and roles and responsibilities in the event of an influenza pandemic.

"I'm looking forward to a candid discussion on some health issues that have a real impact on Canadians, no matter where they live," McMorris said. "We have a lot of ground to cover for two days, but I expect it's going to take us to that next level where we can return with some direction for the work to continue at home."
