GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN PROCLAIMS CANADIAN FORCES DAY JUNE 1

Premier Brad Wall today proclaimed the first Sunday in June as Canadian Forces Day, a day in which to salute the brave men and women serving our country. The Province of Saskatchewan joins the federal campaign to celebrate Canadian Forces Day, which is set for June 1 this year.

"I would like to encourage all Saskatchewan residents to take this day to celebrate and support the contributions of Canada's military personnel," Wall said. "These dedicated Canadians serve to provide peace and security at home and abroad, and the sacrifices that they and their families make will be recognized each year on Canadian Forces Day."

Wall's proclamation was read in the Legislative Assembly. In attendance were Captain Wes Gramiak, Detachment Commander, Canadian Forces Recruiting Detachment Saskatoon and Chairperson, Central Saskatchewan Military Family Resource Centre - 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn; Master Corporal Tom Kennedy, Air Traffic Control section, Chairperson, Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre - 15 Wing Moose Jaw; Mr. Regan Gorski, Executive Director, Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre - 15 Wing Moose Jaw; and Mr. Richard Cuttell, Executive Director, Central Saskatchewan Military Family Resource Centre - 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn.

The Military Family Resource Centres provide support and resources to the families of Saskatchewan's military personnel.

"This proclamation by the Saskatchewan Government to support our troops and their families is greatly appreciated by all regular and reserve men and women in uniform," Captain Gramiak said. "It is nice to know that the Government of Saskatchewan recognizes the importance of supporting the Canadian Forces members and in particular those members who are separated from their families for an extended period of time."

Members of the Saskatchewan Government showed their support in the Assembly today by wearing Support our Troops pins. Gramiak is asking Saskatchewan businesses to encourage their employees to organize Red Shirt Fridays each week to show their support of Canada's Forces.
