GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO IMPROVED PREECEVILLE HEALTH FACILITY

Saskatchewan Health confirmed its commitment for an upgraded multi-purpose health facility in Preeceville. It will bring acute care, long-term care and community health services under one roof.

"Our top priority is improving the quality of health services and access to care, while ensuring our health care system is sustainable into the future," Health Minister John Nilson said during a local fund-raising luncheon today. "When we bring together several services into one building, the result will be cost savings for the health region, and an improved space for users of the hospital, long-term care residents and health care professionals and support staff."

Saskatchewan Health is working closely with Sunrise Health Region to plan the improvements to Preeceville Hospital and confirm details about the space that will be needed for the integration of acute care, long-term care and community health services into the facility.

"We are very pleased to be able to build upon what the needs assessment indicated was required to sustain services in Preeceville," Sunrise Health Region's chief executive officer Joe Kirwan said. "The integrated facility will provide a platform for the future of acute and long-term care in this community."

"Once built, the integrated facility will greatly benefit the community of Preeceville," Sunrise Regional Health Authority chair Ben Weber said.

Planning for the Preeceville facility is part of a $36.5 million investment in capital construction projects by Saskatchewan Health this year. Projects of this nature generally cost between $8 and $10 million.
