News Release - August 21, 2006 PETIT INQUEST
An inquest into the death of Fabian Petit will be held August 28th - 30th, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Prince Albert Queen's Bench Courthouse, 1800 Central Avenue, Prince Albert.
Mr. Petit, aged 27 years, died August 15th, 2005, while an inmate at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre. Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, states that an inquest is to be held when the death of an inmate occurs in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility unless the death was due to natural causes and was not preventable. In addition to establishing who died, when and where the individual died and the medical cause of death, the coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
