3RD ANNUAL YOUTH HERITAGE POSTER CONTEST

Saskatchewan young people are encouraged to share their own connection to our province's rich heritage through artistic expression in the 3rd Annual Heritage Poster Contest.

Students in Grades 1 to 12 are invited to create posters illustrating a heritage place in Saskatchewan and describe why they feel that place is significant.

"In the past, students have shown they are very knowledgeable about our diverse culture, history and heritage," Culture Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said. "The poster contest is a great way for students to learn more about the built heritage of Saskatchewan as we complete our Centennial year celebrations."

Students attending 27 different schools across Saskatchewan participated in the youth heritage poster contest last year.

There will be one winner in each of the following grade categories:
• primary (Grades 1-3);
• junior (Grades 4-6);
• intermediate (Grades 7-9); and
• senior (Grades 10 to 12).

Entries must be handcrafted by an individual student and depict an existing heritage place within the province.

A committee made up of members of the Saskatchewan Heritage Advisory Board and the Saskatchewan Arts Board will review the entries and announce the winners during an awards ceremony to be held during Heritage Week in February 2006.

Winners in each category will receive a prize and a framed certificate.

The submission deadline is January 16th, 2006.
