News Release - September 22, 2008 TOURISM SASKATCHEWAN TELLS SASKATCHEWAN’S STORY TO THE WORLDPromoting Saskatchewan at the 2010 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games just got better with the Government of Saskatchewan's $700,000 allocation to Tourism Saskatchewan for high-definition video footage and still photography. "With high quality video and still photography collection, we can promote Saskatchewan on a whole new level," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "We are excited to work with Tourism Saskatchewan to give our province the quality profile it deserves before, during and after the Games in 2010." The video and still photography collection will express Saskatchewan's vibrant tourism industry. Highlighting some of Saskatchewan's most unique geography and key tourism sectors, the imagery spans from the southern badlands to our northern boreal forest. Many Saskatchewan residents are not familiar with the extreme geographic diversity of our province. Having the footage and pictures that truly portray the beauty of our land is critical to tourism promotion both to residents and to travellers from across North America and around the world. "Tourism Saskatchewan is delighted and grateful to receive funds from our partner, the Government of Saskatchewan," Tourism Saskatchewan president/CEO Dr. Lynda Haverstock said. "Our province's grandeur deserves to be captured on film and shared with the world. This financial assistance has allowed Tourism Saskatchewan to begin to build an inventory of high-definition video and still photography, which improves our marketing capacity and enables us to be more competitive. Saskatchewan will have a striking visual presence at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, thanks to this generous investment." The results of this initial investment are high-definition video footage and still photography products that meet the requirements of international media. These pictures and video clips will be made available to media and to the Canadian Tourism Commission for use preceding, during, and after the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The imagery will also be used in various Tourism Saskatchewan marketing pieces beginning with the 2008/2009 marketing cycle. With the summer shooting schedule complete, the next step will be organizing the winter schedule. -30- For more information, contact: Janet Peters |
