CROP REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 25TH

Following a dry, windy week, only 40 per cent of crop reporters note adequate moisture levels, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization's Weekly Crop Report.

Topsoil moisture conditions on crop, hay and pasture land vary. In general, the northeast reports areas of surplus moisture, with west-central and southeast regions reporting areas of low moisture.

While there are localized reports of excellent pasture conditions in the southwest, pasture conditions are highly variable throughout the province.

Pre-seeding field-work has begun, but cool weather has prevented farmers in most areas from getting seeding underway. Small pockets of the southwest, however, report that seeding is 50 per cent complete.

Overall, about one per cent of the 2004 crop is in the ground with peas the most commonly seeded crop so far.

Livestock water supplies are generally adequate, except localized areas in west central and southeast regions.
