News Release - June 10, 2011 SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AND ENTREPRENEURSThe Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed the week of June 6-12 as Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs Week, in celebration of the talent and dedication of Saskatchewan's young entrepreneurs and business people. "Our youth are helping move Saskatchewan forward by dedicating their time and efforts into making Saskatchewan a better place to live and raise a family," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "We are grateful to these young men and women that drive the entrepreneurial spirit of this province." Spearheading this week's festivities is the Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs (SYPE), a non-profit organization with a mission to promote networking and the development of opportunities that allow young people to stay in Saskatchewan. SYPE was created in 1999 and has grown to include more than 650 members in seven chapters across the province. "The young people of Saskatchewan are amazing entrepreneurs who are garnering national and international attention," SYPE's Regina Chapter President Patrick Mah said. "We are privileged to network with these individuals, and celebrate their homegrown achievements across the province." This week is highlighted by the SYPE Silver Spades Awards Gala, honouring the province's young professionals and entrepreneurs. This year, Enterprise Saskatchewan has teamed-up with SYPE to introduce the SYPE Volta Award. The award celebrates excellence in youth entrepreneurship and profiles young business owners through an online social media campaign. The SYPE Volta Award originated from a Youth Economic Engagement Council recommendation that was endorsed by the Enterprise Saskatchewan Board. 2011 has been declared the Year of the Entrepreneur by the Government of Saskatchewan. -30- For more information, contact:
