MCLEAN INQUEST TO RECONVENE

An inquest into the death of Calvin McLean will reconvene January 17-21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cypress Room at the Regina Inn, 1975 Broad Street, Regina, Saskatchewan.

The inquest started on October 25, 2010. Two days prior to the start of the inquest, the Coroner received a request from one of the counsel to call a new expert witness. In fairness to all parties and to allow sufficient time to review the evidence of the expert witness, the Coroner decided to adjourn the inquest.

McLean, age 43 years, died on October 9, 2008 after suffering a medical emergency while being arrested by the Regina Police Service on October 8, 2008.

Section 19 of The Coroners Act, 1999 states that the Chief Coroner may direct that an inquest be held into the death of any person.

In addition to establishing who died, when and where the individual died, the medical cause of death and the manner of death, the coroner's jury could make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.

Coroner Darin Chow, Q.C. of Moose Jaw will preside at the inquest.
