News Release - September 5, 2000 SURFACING TO BEGIN ON HIGHWAYS 4 AND 14 NEAR BIGGAR
Surfacing will soon begin on 5.2 km of Highways 4 and 14 near Biggar.
"On-road work for this $1.1 million project is anticipated to begin immediately with the completion targeted for late September," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 40 full-time workers." Anderson Rental & Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was awarded the contract as the lowest of four bidders. The paving will begin on Highway 4 just south of its junction with Highway 51 and extend to its junction with Highway 14. Paving work will also take place on Highway 14 adjacent to Biggar. "The department will continue to work hard to improve our highway network across the province," Sonntag said. "Highways 4 and 14 are seeing an increase in heavy truck traffic and will benefit from this improvement." Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the largest in the department's history. Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for construction signs and equipment. -30- For more information, contact: Ray Connoly Director Engineering Projects Phone: (306) 933-6117 Cell: (306) 230-5272 |
