PROVINCE MOURNS THE PASSING OF ED TCHORZEWSKI

Premier Brad Wall today extended his sympathy on the passing of former MLA and Deputy Premier Ed Tchorzewski after a lengthy battle with cancer.

"On behalf of the government and people of Saskatchewan, I extend our deepest sympathies to Ed's wife Shirley, to his children and grandchildren, and to all his friends and family," Wall said.

Ed Tchorzewski served as MLA for 25 years, from 1971 to 1982 and from 1985 to 1999. During that time, he served in both government and in opposition, and he held numerous cabinet positions, including Culture and Youth, Consumer Affairs, Education, Health, and Municipal Government.

Wall said Tchorzewski also had the notable distinction of being the last Finance Minister in Premier Allan Blakeney's government and the first Finance Minister in Premier Roy Romanow's government.

"Ed Tchorzewski had a long and distinguished career serving the people of Saskatchewan in many different capacities, and the province owes him and his family a debt of gratitude for his many years of service," Wall said.

Flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature will fly at half mast from now until Tchorzewski's funeral.
