PROVINCE COMMITTED TO MATCH FUNDING FOR RECREATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE CANADA PROGRAM
Meeting the promise to provide an infrastructure stimulus for municipalities, the Province of Saskatchewan is committed to match the federal government funding for Saskatchewan under its Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program.
"Every community and municipality in this province has the opportunity to go to our website and get the information on how to apply for RInC," Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Hutchinson said. "Our government is committed to match the federal allocation for Saskatchewan under this program of $5.3 million. We're doing this so municipalities won't have to come up with two-thirds funding for these projects."
The two-year national initiative is expected to provide a stimulus to the Canadian economy while ensuring local communities can count on their local fields, arenas and pools for decades to come.
The federal government will fund up to 33 per cent of eligible costs. The remaining funding will need to be provided from provincial or municipal governments, community organizations or the private sector. Projects must begin and materially conclude construction before March 31, 2011.
Program application details are available at http://www.municipal.gov.sk.ca or at www.wd-deo.gc.ca. Project proposals are due by May 29, 2009 and projects needing more time to develop have until June 19, 2009.
