SASKATCHEWAN FOCUSING ON SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson will be immersed in sport and recreation this week. Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers responsible for Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation are meeting in Halifax February 10 and 11.
"We know sport and physical activity are an important part of a healthy lifestyle and unfortunately our children are not getting enough exercise," Hutchinson said. "I'm looking forward to some intense discussions with my colleagues about encouraging active lifestyles for youth and welcome this opportunity to share Saskatchewan's innovative ideas with the rest of the country."
After the meetings, Minister Hutchinson will attend the opening ceremonies for the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
The Games run from February 11 to 27 in Halifax. Team Saskatchewan consists of 301 athletes, coaches and managers, 20 mission staff and three performing artists. Athletes will compete in 25 different sports over the two week period.
"These young role models are a great example for all children," Hutchinson said. "We need to encourage young people to take advantage of sport and recreation opportunities and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle."
