News Release - October 19, 2009 SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES FOSTER FAMILIES WEEKIn recognition of the tremendous work that foster families in Saskatchewan do on behalf of children in need, the province has proclaimed October 19-25 as Foster Families Week. "By opening their hearts and homes to children who require care, foster families provide an invaluable service and make a remarkable contribution to the people and communities of Saskatchewan," Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said. "Together, through their tireless efforts and ongoing compassion and dedication, the more than 700 foster families in Saskatchewan are making a huge difference in the lives of vulnerable children and youth in our province." Foster Families Week will be marked by events at the Legislature, as well as by various appreciation events in many communities throughout the province. "There continues to be a need for more foster parents in many communities across the province," Saskatchewan Foster Families Association Executive Director Deb Davies said. "We encourage caring and committed families who might be willing to open up their hearts and homes to care for vulnerable children to call 1-800-667-7002 for more information." "There is no greater priority than our children," Harpauer said. "The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to working with our foster parents, and with the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association, to help ensure a brighter future for all of the children in our province."
