STUDENTS LEARN FROM CRITTERS ON THE CREEK

Students from Moose Jaw's Prince Arthur Community School painted fish symbols next to city storm drains today reminding people that anything entering a drain ends up in local water bodies.

The Yellow Fish Road™ was just one of many activities students took part in through the SaskWater Critters on the Creek program. They also participated in critter dipping, a nature walk and older students helped to beautify the site through the TD Canada Trust Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up.

Each activity is designed to teach children about their water supply, the need to protect it and the effect water supply has on the health of their community.

"SaskWater Critters on the Creek is a fantastic program," Minister responsible for SaskWater David Forbes said. "The kids get hands-on knowledge of how important quality water is to a quality life in Saskatchewan communities."

"Involvement and awareness of community is an essential part of growing up and helping in community development," Prince Arthur Community School principal Sunil Pandila said. "With this program, the students learn the importance of having healthy water supplies and how we can all help in ensuring this for the future."

SaskWater partners with the Moose Jaw River Watershed Stewards and the City of Moose Jaw to deliver Critters on the Creek, now in its second year. In its role as corporate partner, SaskWater has supported a variety of programs at Prince Arthur Community School. SaskWater has provided resources to the school's swimming program, the Guided Reading program and the nutrition program.
