News Release - June 24, 2005 SASKATCHEWAN PROVINCIAL PARKS LAUNCH CENTENNIAL SUMMER EVENTS
Saskatchewan Environment is in high gear and ready to celebrate and entertain parks visitors as it launches its centennial summer events throughout the provincial parks.
"Provincial parks are celebrating Saskatchewan's centennial with special events and activities that showcase the diversity of our parks and our natural and cultural heritage," Saskatchewan Environment Minister David Forbes said. "I encourage everyone to visit a provincial park as part of their centennial celebrations." This year, Saskatchewan Express will be performing at eight provincial parks as part of a special Centennial Celebration Tour. Performances by Dancing Sky Theatre and Drama Queen Theatre will also be held at various parks. Visitors can also take part in the Heritage Days and the centennial celebrations that are planned at several parks. Several Saskatchewan Parks centennial initiatives are already in the works. Visitors are encouraged to pick up a copy of the 2005 Parks Guide & Passport and take part in the Centennial Park Passport Contest. There are six different categories park visitors can choose to enter for a chance to win cash and prizes worth up to $13,000. Saskatchewan homecoming organizing groups may request free three-day park entry coupons for their homecoming visitors. As the summer winds down, visitors can also take advantage of the free park entry during the Labour Day long weekend - a great opportunity to visit a provincial park. Throughout the centennial year, Saskatchewan parks will continue to host a variety of special events and initiatives in celebration of the province's centennial.
