NEW YORK DOCTOR RECOGNIZED FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO SASKATCHEWAN

Provincial Secretary Wayne Elhard presented the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award to Dr. Daniel Fox, President Emeritus of the Milbank Memorial Fund in New York at Government House in Regina today.

The Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award recognizes non-residents of the province who have made outstanding contributions to Saskatchewan and the development of the provincial economy, culture and society.

A former faculty member and administrator at Harvard University and New York State University, Fox has made significant contributions to Saskatchewan through his leadership as the international board member of the Health Quality Council, an independent agency that initiated the first province-wide measurement of patients' experiences in hospital care. The survey developed to gather this information has been the first in Canada to be recognized by Accreditation Canada.

"It's my honour to present this award to Dr. Fox on behalf of the province," Elhard said. "His commitment has ensured that our top priority remains not only high-quality health care, but positive health care experiences for some of our province's most vulnerable citizens."

Nominations for the Distinguished Service Award may be proposed by any ministry, agency or Crown corporation of the Government of Saskatchewan, or authority in which the government is a direct partner. Including today's recipient, 23 non-residents have received the award since its inception in 1997.
