News Release - December 6, 2004 HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICES PERSONNEL
Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 41 recipients at HMCS Unicorn in Saskatoon today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.
Recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today include: • RCMP members from Rosthern and Delisle; • Municipal police from Corman Park and Saskatoon; • Fire protection personnel from Saskatoon, Hudson Bay, Viscount, Leroy and District, and Asquith; • Corrections and Public Safety personnel from Saskatoon and Warman; • Saskatchewan Environment personnel from Chitek Lake, Saskatoon, Meadow Lake and Prince Albert; • Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation personnel from Saskatoon and Langham; and • Federal Correctional Service officers from Saskatoon "I am pleased that our province has the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal as a way to honour the courageous men and women who protect the people and property of our province," Justice Minister Frank Quennell said on behalf of Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty. The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002. The medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
