Regina's new specialty wine store franchise is now one step closer to reality.

Calgary businessman Wayne Henuset will own and operate the Regina franchise.

"We're pleased to be welcoming Mr. Henuset to Saskatchewan. His related business experience and extensive knowledge of specialty beverage alcohol products will serve Regina customers well," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) Dan D'Autremont said. "This new store will be welcomed by consumers looking for specialty products not available in SLGA stores."

Henuset was selected through an open Request for Proposals (RFP) process conducted by Meyers Norris Penny on behalf of SLGA. Henuset, who currently owns and operates Willow Park Wines & Spirits in Calgary, is pleased SLGA is introducing specialty wine store franchises.

"The experience at our current retail locations is that consumers have an ever expanding palate for new products from other regions of the world," Henuset said. "I'm excited at the opportunity to offer Regina an expanded listing of unique products that haven't previously been available in Saskatchewan."

Saskatchewan's liquor retail system is a mix of public and private operators. There are 79 public liquor stores, 185 private businesses that operate as liquor franchises on behalf of SLGA, approximately 450 private off-sale outlets and more than 1,000 liquor permitted establishments located throughout the province.
