News Release - February 18, 2011 $34 MILLION FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSINGThe Government of Saskatchewan announced nearly $34 million in new funding today for affordable housing in more than 100 communities across Saskatchewan. "We are committed to delivering more affordable housing for the people of Saskatchewan at the same time as we rehabilitate our existing social housing portfolio," Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude said. "The new funding for housing announced today will go to projects and communities across the province, helping to ensure that all Saskatchewan people have access to quality, affordable housing." The nearly $34 million in new housing funding will go toward developing more affordable rental housing in communities with a long-term housing need and rejuvenating government-funded housing across Saskatchewan-rehabilitating homes and rental units that would be lost without major work. Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) is currently working with various communities to identify and prioritize the projects that will result from this new funding. More details about specific projects will be announced in the coming weeks. -30- For more information, contact:
