News Release - June 7, 2004 GRAND OPENING OF NEW CANDO CHILD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Eleven new licensed early child care spaces are now available in Cando with assistance from the provincial government.
Young parents attending Cando Community School can now concentrate on completing their studies with the grand opening of the Cando Child Care and Development Centre. The centre is licensed to accommodate six infants and five toddlers for a total of 11 early child care spaces. It is located in an extensively renovated teacherage less than a block from the community school. "Quality care in the first years of life is enormously important in a child's lifelong capacity for thinking, learning and socializing," Community Resources and Employment Minister Joanne Crofford said. "We recognize the important work of our child care providers and through providing new spaces, we demonstrate the commitment our government has made to children and their young parents." Last year, Child Care Saskatchewan, a four-year initiative representing the largest investment in child care in the history of the province was launched. As part of that strategy 1,200 new child care spaces will be developed. Last year 500 new spaces were added. This year, 200 spaces will be developed. The availability of quality day care contributes to young people's ability to build independence by allowing them to complete their education and have more skills with which to find good work and build meaningful careers. -30- For More Information, Contact:
