SASKATCHEWAN VOLUNTEER MEDAL RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart announced today the names of eight recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The Medal recognizes outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

"The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal enables us to publicly thank our generous citizens who have made volunteerism a lifelong priority," Barnhart said. "The 2007 recipients are outstanding role models who are most deserving of this prestigious provincial honour."

The 2007 recipients are:

  • Eric E. Antonini, retired businessman, Saskatoon
  • Anita Bella, retired teacher, Melville
  • Margaret Debenham, retired historian, Kennedy
  • Barbara Dedi, psychiatric nurse, Regina 
  • Lyle Karasiuk, advanced care paramedic, Prince Albert
  • Kenneth H. Miller, retired farmer, Redvers
  • Albert (Rocky) Rochelle, retired community leader, Saskatoon
  • A. Dianne Wilson, historian, Saskatoon

The recipients will receive their awards on April 30, in Regina. Recipients are selected by the Saskatchewan Honours Advisory Council from nominations submitted by the public. Including the eight new recipients, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been presented to 112 outstanding individuals since 1995. Saskatchewan has the highest rate of volunteerism in Canada.
