News Release - January 8, 2010 $1.4 MILLION AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT OPENS IN BATTLEFORDTwo four-unit affordable rental housing projects in Battleford are officially open for low-income families thanks to approximately $1.4 million in provincial funding. The four-plexes, located at 91 and 162-25th Street, provide easy access to an elementary school and downtown services with the goal of providing families who live there with supports to help build a safe and healthy community. "Our government is committed to putting vulnerable people first in this province," Biggar MLA Randy Weekes said on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation Donna Harpauer. "This project helps address a need for stable, quality, affordable housing in this community, and provides opportunities for families to become more involved with their neighbours. We are pleased to work with local people and local groups to ensure Saskatchewan families get the housing they need." The project was undertaken by Battle Valley Enterprises Inc. (BVE) and the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC), and will be managed by the Battleford Housing Authority. -30- For more information, contact:
