CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS AT CANNINGTON MANOR PROVINCIAL PARK

Saskatchewan Environment Minister David Forbes today joined riders participating in the 2005 Heritage Trek and members of White Bear First Nation in a Centennial celebration at Cannington Manor Provincial Park.

As well as welcoming riders re-enacting the 1886 North West Mounted Police journey from Moosomin to Estevan with a feast and round dance, the province's $630,000 investment to improve the park was recognized with a plaque.

"We are pleased and proud to dedicate these facilities to the people of Saskatchewan," Forbes said. "These improvements will ensure park visitors will experience and enjoy a piece of this province's history. We can reflect back on the past 100 years and even further and look at the events and people who laid the foundations of our province, such as those being commemorated by the Heritage Trek."

The upgrades to the park include the development of new interpretive exhibits, the reconstruction of the Bachelor Cabin, structural preservation work at the Humphry/Hewlett house, a potable water system and modern washrooms.
