CANWOOD HOUSING AUTHORITY RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENT SERVICE

Regional Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Lon Borgerson on behalf of Community Resources Minister Kevin Yates, today presented the Canwood Housing Authority with a 2007 Spirit Award, in recognition of its excellence in service delivery.

"Our housing authorities are an integral part of the province's community services and the Canwood Housing Authority has distinguished itself as one of the best in Saskatchewan," Borgerson said. "This award reflects the tremendous dedication of the board and staff of the Canwood Housing Authority to serving their tenants and community."

The Spirit Award is presented annually in three categories to community-based organizations (CBOs) that have demonstrated an ability to make a difference in people's lives in areas such as building inclusive families and communities, good governance, accountability and linkages with other groups. CBOs that received funding from Community Resources, or its agency, the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, within the previous two years are eligible for the award.

This year, the Canwood Housing Authority won in the housing category, Hunger in Moose Jaw won in the children, youth and families category and the Prairie Employment Program of North Battleford won in the people with disabilities category.

A list of nominees and a summary of their work is available on the Community Resources web site at www.cr.gov.sk.ca.
