LABOUR MINISTER CONFIRMS COMMITMENT TO CONSULT ON ADDITIONAL HOURS

Labour Minister Deb Higgins reconfirmed that that the government intends to fully consult with all parties – businesses, part-time workers, students and others – once draft regulations on additional hours of work are completed.

"This is a very complex issue with no simple answers," Higgins said. "We need to consult with everyone involved to see how these proposals would work and whether we can achieve our goal of creating better, full-time jobs for part-time workers."

Higgins met last Thursday with representatives of the province's business community to clear up some misunderstandings on the government's additional hours initiative.

"I am pleased that these business representatives accepted my invitation to meet," Higgins said. "It gave me an opportunity to address some of the misconceptions around process and our overall intent, and to hear what they had to say. I am looking forward to receiving their comments on the draft regulations during the consultation process."

Higgins said everyone – business and labour – wants to see the Saskatchewan economy grow, and the government is committed to working with business and labour to build a better climate for growth.
