TECHNICAL SAFETY AUTHORITY OF SASKATCHEWAN SEES OFFICIAL LAUNCH

Corrections, Public Safety and Policing (CPSP) Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert today announced the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer for the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (T-SASK).

T-SASK is the arms-length organization established by legislation last spring to administer the province's safety program for boilers, pressure vessels, elevating devices and amusement park rides. These functions had formerly been performed by CPSP's Licensing and Inspections Branch.

"We listened to our industry stakeholders who told us that licensing and inspection services needed to be delivered faster and more efficiently to keep pace with their needs," Huyghebaert said. "By meeting industry's requirements, we're also ensuring we're reducing the risk to public safety while giving them the opportunity to expand and grow with Saskatchewan's economy."

T-SASK began operations on July 1, 2010 with a full slate of Board members and a Chief Executive Officer now appointed. CPSP will continue to be responsible for overall policy as well as legislative and regulatory requirements.

"Public safety is a top-of-mind concern," T-SASK Chief Executive Officer Ken From said. "Our significant challenge is to determine how to deliver the right services at the right time to our customers so we can keep them operating both efficiently and safely."

Members of the T-SASK Board of Directors are:

  • Peter Hoffmann, Chairman
  • Keith Laxdal, Vice-Chairman
  • Donald (Fred) Gill
  • Ted Hillstead
  • Michael Dumelie
  • Bob Schutzman
