SCOTTY EXHIBIT AT HERSCHEL'S ANCIENT ECHOES

A replica of Scotty, Saskatchewan's Tyrannosaurus rex, is on exhibit at the Ancient Echoes Interpretive Centre in Herschel for the month of June.

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) is pleased to partner with Ancient Echoes in the presentation of an exhibit of a three-dimensional replica of Scotty's skull. The exhibit is a timely event as schools are participating in their wind-up tours for the school year.

"The display will allow young people an up-close and hands-on experience with Saskatchewan's unique diversity and history," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said.

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is pleased that this jewel from Saskatchewan's prehistoric past can travel throughout the province. Not everyone is able to come to the RSM in Regina or the T. rex Discovery Centre in Eastend to visit Scotty, so this is an opportunity for people from Herschel and surrounding communities to visit him in their region.

"Ancient Echoes Interpretive Centre is very excited to have on loan the T. rex exhibit for the month of June," Ancient Echoes Interpretive Centre Manager Crystal Craig said. "It truly is amazing to see. Palaeontology is a key focus of the Centre as the area has a prehistoric history of marine fossils. It is wonderful to have displays that help tell the story of what happened in Saskatchewan 65 million years ago."

During part of Scotty's visit in Herschel, a palaeontological field crew from the RSM will be excavating marine fossil reptiles from the Age of Dinosaurs at two sites in the Herschel area.

This replica of Scotty's skull is one of three produced for the RSM. One is on tour in Japan, and the other is on exhibit at the T. rex Discovery Centre in Eastend.

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is fully funded by the provincial government as part of its commitment to give the people of Saskatchewan an appreciation and understanding of our natural and cultural heritage.
