COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM DEADLINE APPROACHING

Community-based, non-profit and volunteer organizations are reminded that November 1st is the deadline for applications for the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) community grant program. New application guidelines have been designed to clarify program eligibility and streamline the application process.

"Community pride and involvement are key components of the social fabric of Saskatchewan," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. "The community grant program's revised guidelines make it easier for community organizations to access support for the worthwhile projects that they deliver, ensuring an enhanced quality of life for residents throughout the province."

The CIF community grant program supports projects that enhance human development and community vitality, with a special emphasis on activities for young people and leadership opportunities for youth. Since its introduction in 1997, the program has provided more than $18 million for 3,186 community-based projects.

The CIF community grant program is funded through profits from the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation. The program is managed at arms-length from government by an independent, volunteer Board of Trustees that makes final grant decisions based on input from Regional Intersectoral Committees.

"We revised the guidelines to encourage more interest from community groups in smaller communities," Board Chairman Lance Brown said. "Improvements to the application guidelines will help us efficiently and effectively get project funds into the hands of those who provide opportunities for Saskatchewan children, youth and families at the local level."
