News Release - June 16, 2003 WELCOMING THE EARL OF WESSEX
Saskatchewan residents are invited to welcome His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex at public events from June 19th-22nd.
"While the visit includes many official ceremonies, there are several occasions for The Earl to meet local residents in person," Provincial Secretary Joanne Crofford said. It is customary in Saskatchewan for royal visit itineraries to be arranged according to themes. For the visit of the Earl of Wessex, the themes are: • History and heritage - the centennials of four municipalities and an event at Government House Heritage Property. • Youth - the welcome at the Legislative Building and the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards • Aboriginal peoples - Treaty Days in Prince Albert and opening of the First Nations University. • The arts - Globe Theatre, opening of Prince Albert Centre for the Arts, Regina sound stage. Details of His Royal Highness' itinerary, his biography and information about the monarchy are available on a special Royal Visit website at www.royalvisit2003.ca. On June 19th in Regina, the public is invited to greet The Earl of Wessex at 10:20 a.m. in front of the Legislative Building at a welcoming ceremony. At 11:50 a.m. he will participate in centennial celebrations at Regina City Hall followed by a walkabout in Victoria Park. On June 20th, Saskatchewan residents will have three opportunities to meet The Earl. At 11:15 a.m. he will be at Lloydminster City Hall to take part in the centennial celebrations. At 1:25 p.m. he will visit the Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre. The Earl of Wessex will be in Prince Albert at 3:10 p.m. to open the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts and attend Urban Treaty Days. He will end the day in Melfort with a tour of the District Museum at 5:55 p.m. where he will inaugurate the Prince Edward Park. On June 21st at 9:55 a.m, The Earl of Wessex will be at the University of Regina to officially open the First Nations University of Canada. On June 22nd His Royal Highness will be in Moose Jaw to attend service at St. John's Anglican Church and participate in a ceremony with the Saskatchewan Dragoons at the Moose Jaw Armoury. The Earl of Wessex will unveil plaques at Crescent Park at 2:40 p.m. His last engagement before departing Saskatchewan is at 3:30 p.m. where he will attend the Moose Jaw Hometown Fair. -30- For More Information, Contact:
