News Release - March 20, 2006 WORKERS' COMPENSATION ACT REVIEWED
A Committee of Review (COR) has been appointed to make recommendations to the government concerning The Workers' Compensation Act, 1979, and regulations, as well as the administration of the Act.
The review is conducted every four years, as stipulated in the Act. "The modern workplace is constantly changing," Labour Minister David Forbes said. "The COR process ensures that government, the Workers' Compensation Board, employers and employees work together to create an up-to-date compensation system that is fair and responsive. The committee is chaired by James E. Dorsey, Q.C., an expert in the field of workers' compensation, and made up of equal representatives of both employers and employees. Members of the committee are: Susan Buckle, Jane Deters, Ken Dishaw, Jacquie Griffiths, Marg Romanow and Lori Sali. The public is also invited to participate. A website is currently being established, and public hearings are expected to begin this fall. The COR will forward a report to Labour Minister David Forbes by year-end. -30- For More Information, Contact:
