PREMIER WALL EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF FALLEN SASKATCHEWAN SOLDIER

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall today announced that flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature will fly at half mast until the funeral of Sgt. Prescott Shipway.

Sgt. Shipway and his family moved to Regina from the United Kingdom when he was a young child. His family then moved to Saskatoon. While living in that city, Sgt. Shipway joined the Canadian Forces in 1990.

Shipway died on Sunday, in Afghanistan.

"Once again, a young man from Saskatchewan has made the supreme sacrifice as our country attempts to bring safety and democracy to the people of this war-torn country," Wall said.

"Tami and I join with everyone in our province as we honour that sacrifice and express our sincere condolences to Sgt. Shipway's grieving family, in particular his wife, his six year-old son and four year-old daughter. I want them all to know that the thoughts and prayers of an entire province are with them.

"We also hope and pray for the speedy recovery of the seven other Canadian soldiers injured in this attack."
