JUNE PROCLAIMED RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH

The Province has proclaimed June as Recreation and Parks Month in Saskatchewan.

This year is the 5th year that Saskatchewan has designated the month of June to recognize the economic, social, personal and environmental benefits the recreation and parks sector provides to Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) plans to celebrate Recreation and Parks Month on Saturday, June 6, 2009, in conjunction with the Town of Rocanville's Community Day Celebrations.

"I am pleased we are able to help celebrate Saskatchewan's abundance of quality recreational facilities through the proclamation of June as Recreation and Parks Month,' Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "It gives us a chance to recognize how much recreation and parks add to our economy, our heritage and the quality of life in our province."

"Celebrating Recreation and Parks Month draws attention to the value of these services and recognizes the importance of the many volunteers and administrators," Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association president Randy Kinnee said. "Our recreational facilities and diverse park system provide opportunities for people to engage in healthy activity, socialize with family and friends, and to appreciate some of the province's greatest attractions. Whether you choose to rough-it in your own backyard, use a park or recreation facility, participation is an integral part of the celebration. I encourage everyone to live it every day!"

The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association is a non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to promote, develop and facilitate parks and recreation opportunities throughout the province. SPRA is recognized as the provincial umbrella organization representing parks and recreation in Saskatchewan. SPRA manages the Recreation Section of the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation. Visit www.spra.sk.ca to learn more.
