SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

Learning Minister Deb Higgins today proclaimed February 11-17, as Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week in Saskatchewan.

Higgins said it is important to take time in the middle of the school year to honour Saskatchewan teachers and support staff, who dedicate so much of their lives to creating positive learning environments for our students.

“Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week provides a crucial opportunity to recognize the contributions Saskatchewan teachers, school secretaries, teacher assistants, nurses, bus drivers and custodians make to the intellectual growth, security and well-being of our students,” Higgins said.  “Education is an important investment we make in ourselves, and an important investment in the future of Saskatchewan.”

The Saskatchewan Association of School Councils (SASC) organizes and promotes Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week in the province.  They aim to enhance recognition among parents and the wider community regarding the important contributions teachers and support staff make to the lives of children and their education.

“This year’s Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week theme, Teach/Learn, exemplifies the relationship between partners - parents, teachers, community members - at the grassroots level of the school, and demonstrates how we can all teach and learn from one another,” SASC president Sarah Sun said.

Communities throughout the province celebrate the week with brunches, teas, prize draws, and daily treats for teachers and staff.

This is the twentieth consecutive year that the provincial government has recognized the province’s 12,000 teachers and the thousands of others who work in the learning sector for helping to make Saskatchewan the best place for young people to learn, live, work and build strong futures by proclaiming Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week in Saskatchewan.
