GUILTY PLEA TO CHARGES RELATING TO WORK FATALITY

A Grenfell man has pleaded guilty to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act in relation to a fatal workplace incident that took place in 2009.

Tyler Neuls was charged after an August 29, 2009, incident in which his colleague, Billy Francis, died while unloading a steel pole from the back of a trailer near Moosomin.

Neuls pleaded guilty to failure to take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of himself and his co-worker by unloading a steel pole in a dangerous manner and was fined $400 in Yorkton Provincial Court.

In 2012-13, there have been nine convictions for non-compliance of OHS regulations and more than $505,000 in fines.
