2009 COUNCIL OF THE FEDERATION LITERACY AWARD PRESENTED

At a ceremony today at the Legislature, Deputy Premier Ken Krawetz presented Dr. Margaret Lipp with the 2009 Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

"On behalf of Premier Brad Wall, I am pleased to present Dr. Margaret Lipp with this prestigious award," Krawetz said. "It is a fitting way to recognize Dr. Lipp's visionary leadership and her many contributions to the advancement of literacy and life-long learning in Saskatchewan."

For over four decades, Dr. Margaret Lipp has been active in the field of education and literacy. She has served as an educator, administrator, Assistant Deputy Minister and Literacy Commissioner. Currently retired, Dr. Lipp maintains her involvement in literacy through her continuing role as a board member of the National Adult Literacy Database, which links organizations and builds a united national literacy community.

Created by Canada's premiers, the Council of the Federation (COF) Literacy Award has been awarded since 2005 in each province and territory. The award recognizes the valuable contributions of Canadians in the field of literacy, including family, Aboriginal, health, workplace and community literacy. Each award recipient receives a COF Literacy Award medallion, as well as a certificate.
