HISTORIC PLACES IN SASKATCHEWAN MUNICIPALITIES STUDY COMPLETED

A study was released today on the conservation of historic places in Saskatchewan municipalities.

"This study provides government with a better understanding of the interests and challenges municipalities face in protecting and promoting historic places in the province," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "Saskatchewan's historic places contribute to the economic and social viability and environmental sustainability of communities, and municipal governments play a key role in promoting and protecting local heritage resources."

Between February and May 2008, a questionnaire was distributed to 747 Saskatchewan cities, towns, villages, rural municipalities, northern communities and resort villages.

A summary of results will be shared with Saskatchewan municipalities, provincial ministries, other stakeholders and the public, and will be available online today at www.tpcs.gov.sk.ca/research.
