LIBRARY EDUCATION BURSARY AWARDED

Kelly McIvor from Halifax, Nova Scotia is the successful recipient of the 2005 Library Education Bursary. The annual $5,000 bursary offers funding to a student enrolled or accepted in a Master of Library and Information Science (MLS) program, or equivalent, who will live and work in Saskatchewan for at least two years after graduating.

"I am overjoyed to have been selected as the successful recipient of the 2005 Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary and would like to take this opportunity to thank the Multitype Library Board, Saskatchewan Learning and the Saskatchewan Library Association for making it possible," McIvor said. "This bursary will aid me tremendously in the completion of my MLS degree and in my return to Saskatchewan."

While currently enjoying her studies at Dalhousie University's School of Information Management in Nova Scotia, she misses Saskatchewan where she obtained a Bachelors of Science from the University of Saskatchewan in 2002. "I can't wait to return and begin my career," McIvor said.

"The Bursary, now in its fourth year, has been very successful in recruiting, and retaining, bright new librarians in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary is an excellent example of a collaborative, multitype library venture that benefits all libraries in the province and the many communities and individuals they serve."

"The bursary has definitely succeeded in its goals of attracting energetic and committed professionals to Saskatchewan and helping address succession planning in the library sector. Past recipients are all living and working in Saskatchewan and contributing on several levels to the library community."

The bursary was established through the partnership between Saskatchewan Learning, the Saskatchewan Library Association and the Multitype Library Board, a network of public, special and post-secondary education libraries as well as other information providers and the Saskatchewan Provincial Library.
