SASKATCHEWAN INNOVATION AND ADVANTAGES PROMOTED IN CALGARY

Saskatchewan’s achievements in innovation, its booming economy and lower cost of living will be the topics of discussion when Premier Lorne Calvert and Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline meet with business leaders and Saskatchewan expatriates in Calgary tomorrow.

While in Calgary, Calvert and Cline will participate in two government-sponsored receptions as part of the Innovative by Nature campaign.  The first reception is a luncheon for Calgary’s top business executives to ensure business decision-makers outside Saskatchewan know more about innovation activities and business opportunities in the province.  The second reception, held in partnership with the Universities of Saskatchewan and Regina, is an opportunity to deliver that same message to university alumni, as well as to extend a compelling invitation to move back.  Calvert will also be doing a series of interviews and editorial boards with local print, radio and television media as part of his visit to Calgary.

“Saskatchewan’s unprecedented growth and investment opportunities in innovation likely resonate with investors in Alberta more than in any other province,” Calvert said.  “Not only are we right next door, but we offer one of the most competitive business environments in Canada.  Saskatchewan has many opportunities in a wide range of areas and offers a quality of life that is beyond compare.”

To make sure more people know about Saskatchewan opportunities, 28 new billboards promoting the province’s online job-bank, Saskjobs.ca, are spread out across Calgary.  The billboards invite Calgary residents to “go where the jobs are.”  It is a call-to-action that is supported by Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco and Saskatoon Mayor Donald Atchison who are participating in the business reception.

“The time is right for people to embrace what Regina has to offer,” Fiacco said.  “Regina boasts the most affordable housing in the country, short commutes, abundant job opportunities and an amazing quality of life.”

“We welcome everyone to Saskatoon!” Atchison said.  “We have the booming industries, the dedicated work force, and a second-to-none quality of life.  It’s a sound business decision and coming to Saskatoon only means success.”

Innovative by Nature is a multimedia campaign targeting out-of-province business leaders who make investment decisions.  It focuses on Saskatchewan’s strong tradition of innovation, vibrant economy and excellent quality of life.
