MUNICIPAL POLICE RECEIVE COMMISSIONS

For only the third time in Canadian history, three Saskatchewan municipal police officers received Commissioned Officer designations in a ceremony at Government House.

"The dedication and professionalism of Saskatchewan's police forces is demonstrated by these commissions," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister Darryl Hickie said.

Traditionally, the presentation of formal commissions has been made to RCMP officers in recognition of their achievement of a senior rank. With the 2005 amendments to The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan became the first province to represent Lieutenant Governor's Commissions to senior ranking municipal police officers.

Commissioned officers are charged with exercising command over their specific unit or service. Through their commission, they receive their authority for command directly from the Crown.

The police officers receiving this year's commissions are Inspector Lance A. Dudar, Inspector Rodney E. Buckingham, and Inspector Dean R. Rae, all from the Regina Police Service.
